The activities of Arriva are divided into four business units: UK Bus, UK Trains, The Netherlands and Mainland Europe. Arriva has passenger transport operations in the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom, and also operates a rolling stock leasing company in Romania.

In June 2024, we announced the completion of the transaction which includes the whole of the Arriva Group, which is no longer part of DB Group. I Squared Capital is a leading independent manager of infrastructure investments worldwide. The acquisition, first announced in October 2023, covers all of Arrivas businesses in 11 countries. With the support of I Squared, Arriva begins a new stage of promoting its decarbonization and growth strategy, benefiting the millions of people to whom Arriva provides its services every day.
Arriva´s commitment to sustainability in passenger transport has earned important awards. In March 2022 Arriva Spain was recognised as Best British Investment in Sustainability at the 3rd UK-Spain Business Awards organised by the British Embassy in Spain, in collaboration with the British Chamber of Commerce and Banco Santander.
Arriva holds the Prize for Innovation in Public Transport in the fifth edition of the Awards for the Promotion of Public Transport and Sustainable Mobility, organised by the regional government through the Regional Transport Consortium of Madrid (CRTM).
In line with its decarbonisation plan, Arriva inaugurates its new charging centre in Alcorcón and launches its new 100% electric vehicles. With the commitment to the environment and sustainable mobility, from June 2023, all urban lines in the city of Alcorcón are zero emissions.
In a particularly difficult context due to the impact of the health crisis caused by COVID-19, Arriva has redesigned its projects and maintained its transformation plan to advance its journey towards decarbonisation. Proof of this is the new headquarters of Arriva in Spain, located in the Community of Madrid. This new headquarters is a project built following the criteria of the PassivHaus Institute, for almost zero consumption buildings.
We support communities and individuals to continue providing services despite the COVID-19 pandemic. We were flexible and quick to implement hygiene and safety protocols to continue providing our services without interruptions. Arriva, as an operator of essential mobility services, has continued to fulfill its service commitments, even in the toughest moments of the pandemic in each of the countries in which it is present.
Following in the footsteps of multimodality and new ways of moving around, in 2017 we launched ArrivaClick, an on-demand service in the United Kingdom. Likewise, we launched a shared bike system in Slovakia.
In 2016 Arriva won the London Overground contract and started the execution of the Northern Railway Co.
In Italy we acquired the Savda bus operator and signed an agreement with GoGoBus.
In the Czech Republic, we acquired the bus operator CSAD MHD Kladno and expanded our presence in Spain.
In Slovenia we consolidated our presence through the start-up of Alpetour, which doubled Arrivas penetration in the Slovenian market.
In May 2013, Arriva acquires Veolia Transport Central Europe, strengthening its presence in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and starting its operations in new markets such as Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.
Today, DB Arriva carries out more than 2.4 billion passenger journeys in 14 European countries each year. DB Arriva employs around 60,000 people and operates a variety of transport modes, providing bus, train, tram, ferry, car and bike-sharing services.

At the end of 2011, Arriva UK Trains acquired the transport operator Grand Central, in the United Kingdom.
The Deutsche Bahn Group acquires Arriva, becoming the subsidiary of one of the most important groups in multimodal passenger transport in Europe.
2008 marked the year in which Arriva entered the Slovak and Hungarian markets.
In 2007, Arriva began operating in the rail transport of people in Poland and Sweden.
Our first bus company in the Czech Republic arrived in 2006. That same year Arriva entered the Portuguese rail market.
In 2003 we continued to operate rail services in new territories including Wales and border areas with CrossCountry, Chiltern Railways and Grand Central in subsequent years.
In 2002 we expanded our presence in Europe by launching bus operations in Italy and train services in Denmark.
We started train operations in the United Kingdom and the acquisition of bus companies in Portugal.
This is a year of big changes for Arriva, as it changed its name from Cowie to Arriva, and launched operations in Denmark.
In 1998 Arriva continued to grow in continental Europe, entering the markets of the Netherlands, Sweden and the following year, it arrived in Spain.
That same year, Arriva started its journey in the Dutch railway market.
In 1997, it entered the passenger transport market in continental Europe with the acquisition of Unibus Holdings in Denmark and Sweden. New Markets 2013.
Since then it has continued to grow, culminating in this process with the acquisition, in 2013, of Veolia Transport Central Europe, strengthening its presence in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia and starting its operations in new markets such as Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia.
In 1986, regional services were deregulated and privatized, and in 1992 David Martin began expanding what Arriva is today. Passenger transport in continental Europe 1997.

In 1980 Cowie began buying bus companies with the acquisition of the Gray-Green bus company in London. During the following years, there were more acquisitions of bus companies.
In 1960, the company, still called Cowie, redirected its business to auto retail.
Founded in 1938 by the Cowie family (led by Sir Thomas Cowie), as a motorcycle sales and repair business, in Sunderland (United Kingdom).

With the acquisition of operators with strong and recognized regular lines, such as Empresa de Blas y Cía, S.L. (Madrid), in 2008, or Autos Carballo S.A. (Aucasa) and its subsidiary Santiaguesa Metropolitana (Galicia), in 2016, Arriva strengthened its presence in Spain.
After more than 20 years in the Spanish market, Arriva is today a consolidated company in the sector, responsible for serving more than 40 million travellers each year.
With the decarbonisation of its operations as a goal to be achieved, the company opened its new headquarters at the end of 2021, located in Alcorcón (Madrid). A benchmark space in the sector as it is an operational base built following the criteria of the PassivHaus Institute for buildings with high efficiency in energy consumption and resource regeneration. It is an innovative and sustainable project that integrates all the aspects of a new stage in its operations towards mobility wih zero emission and zero noise.
The company continues to redesign its action plan in Spain, incorporating more innovative, secure and better connected systems; listening to passengers and working closely with transport authorities and benchmark entities in mobility, to provide the public transport that todays travellers deserve and that the planet demands.
In 2022, Arriva has been awarded the Best British Investment in Sustainability award, at the III Business Awards, of the British Embassy in Spain. Likewise, it has received the Award for Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability in Public Transport, at the Community of Madrid Awards, organized by the newspaper La Razón (Grupo Planeta).
Arriva is the main provider of bus services in the North of Galicia where we have been operating for more than 20 years and where we transport more than 5 million passengers every year and more than 10,000 schoolchildren every day.
We have a workforce of 229 workers and a fleet of 230 vehicles to serve the main towns in the provinces of A Coruña and Lugo & Coruña and Ourense.
Our main regular lines connect Ferrol with Vilalba, Lugo, Viveiro and Burela; and A Coruña with Carballo, Arteixo, A Laracha, Ponteceso, Laxe, Malpica, Curtis, Oza-Cesuras; as well as the towns between Santiago de Compostela and Burela.
In addition to intercity transport, we are also one of the main school transport operators in the area and we offer other discretionary services (tourist, business, on demand, etc.).
Arriva in Madrid has its origin in the entrepreneurial spirit of two families, Gregorio De Blas and Isidro Gómez, who began their services between Madrid and Navalcarnero through Cuatro Vientos as soon as the Civil War was over.
After various locations, currently and since 1987 its registered office is located in an Industrial Estate in continuous growth, located in the town of Alcorcón, although it is true that the growing demand for services forced it to adopt a multi-head concept. Currently, 45 different intercity and urban routes are offered with more than 230 buses from various headers, among these are: Alcorcón, San José de Valderas, Móstoles, Fuenlabrada, Navalcarnero, Madrid-Norte, and Villaviciosa de Odón.
This continuous growth has made Arriva consolidate its marked leadership in Interurban Road Transport in the Community of Madrid with more than 44,000,000 passengers.
All this thanks to a series of human, technical and material resources, endowed with a high qualification and in continuous technological innovation that allows Arriva to offer total quality in its services.
However, this enviable position is not an obstacle for the General Meeting of Shareholders to continue joining efforts, for the continuous and daily improvement of the service to the public.
